I'm not perfect

There is an assumption or expectation that if we have a profession or title we have to know everything about the topic and perfectly embody all the professional skills.

Be it florist, engineer, medical doctor, therapist or in my case, a health coach and life coach, there is an expectation I have my life completely figured out and am in perfect health. Well, I got news for you - I’m not perfect, my life isn’t perfect or all figured out, and I have health problems too. The cool thing is - that leaves it open for constant growth, connection, relatability, and grace.

We all go through seasons of highs and lows. I have times when it’s a stressful work season or I’m in transition moving to a new place where my health gets put on the back burner. What I have learned is how to get back on track when things do get out of sorts. I have built an incredible toolbox of skills to help reconnect me.

Over the years I have become more aware of my body and what it’s trying to tell me. A few years ago after getting married, I ended up having chronic UTI’s and had an undiagnosable autoimmune disease. In order to heal, I moved to a part-time job and sought a holistic nutritionist and chiropractor who put me on a complete gut cleanse and repair along with an AIP diet for 2 months. After doing that I ended up getting pregnant (so I didn’t totally feel better - thanks to morning sickness), but I didn’t have another UTI or autoimmune issues for almost 2 years.

Unfortunately, due to stress and a heavy workload, my health issues have resurfaced. I could be hard on myself and feel like a disappointment or bad health coach, but instead, I like to look at this as an opportunity for growth and to really pay attention to what my body is telling me. One it’s time to slow down, two - it’s time to do some self-care, three - it’s time for another gut cleanse since I’m having the same symptoms from before that pushed me to seek help in the first place.

It’s actually kind of cool to see how I can take care of myself and don’t have to get the extra help. I know the supplements and diet I need to go on to get my body healthy again. This is what I plan on doing for my reset. Feel free to ask questions, but quick warning - I am not a licensed medical doctor, so be sure to check in with your doctor before doing this yourself.

Week 1: Start of my reset with an elimination diet and probiotics. I like to clear the fridge and pantry, find the right recipes, grocery shop, and come up with a clear plan with my husband.

Week 2-6: Full AIP diet with supplementation. I plan on using a collagen protein, gut defense powder, Glutathione, Mega Sporebiotics, multivitamin, Vitamin D3 + K2, and a digestive enzyme at mealtimes. I like to also take it easy. Don’t overdo it with exercise, but stay active and move with yoga and walks to help move out toxins. I also like to add in Epson salt soaks, skin brushing, lemon water in the morning, drinking extra water, kombucha, and maybe getting a massage or two.
